Any provocation over Hormuz to further complicate situation

TEHRAN, Mar. 30 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said any provocative action by aggressors and their supporters regarding the Strait of Hormuz would further complicate the situation.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and Abbas Araghchi held a phone conversation on regional developments and the security and economic consequences of U.S. and Israeli military aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

During the call, Araghchi described the crimes committed by the United States and Israeli regime during one month of military aggression against Iran and strongly criticized the positions of some European countries, saying they have only expressed concern over the economic consequences of the war while remaining silent on attacks against the Iranian people.

He stressed the continuation of Iran’s defensive operations against aggressors, including their bases and military facilities located in regional countries, and said those operations are linked to the use of those territories and facilities by the United States for the illegal war against Iran.

Araghchi said the main source of insecurity imposed on the Strait of Hormuz is U.S. and Israeli military aggression against Iran.

He added that the waterway is closed to vessels belonging to parties involved in military aggression against Iran, saying the decision was made on the basis of international law and to prevent aggressors from using the strait for unlawful attacks against Iran.

He said vessels belonging to other countries are continuing transit in coordination with competent Iranian authorities.

Araghchi also said any provocative move by aggressors and their supporters, including at the United Nations Security Council, regarding the situation in the strait would only make conditions more complicated.

Barrot, for his part, reaffirmed France’s position opposing the imposed war against Iran and attacks on civilian targets.

He also expressed concern over rising tensions in the region, including in Lebanon, and stressed the need to strengthen political and diplomatic efforts to end the war and restore regional stability and security.

The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on several consular issues and emphasized the continuation of diplomatic engagement at different levels between the two countries.
